Hi! My name is Adole Muruako, and I am a licensed professional counselor with a PhD in health outcomes and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

My passion for mental health developed gradually as I worked in underserved communities, where I witnessed the impact of mental health on individuals. This, along with my personal healing journey, led me to pursue a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling.

I've conducted research on chronic disease and implemented health promotion initiatives in the Mississippi Delta region. I taught various community health promotion courses using acclaimed and recognized curricula.

I am a passionate counselor focused on integrating physical and holistic health into the counseling room, and within healthcare organizations. I currently work with Arise Psychiatry, located in Oxford, MS.

Counseling Practice

In your pursuit of well-being, I integrate the empowering principles of Acceptance and Commitment, alongside the proven techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Through these methods, I offer compassionate guidance that encourages you to gently embrace your inner emotions, rather than avoiding or struggling with them. It's important to recognize that your deeper feelings are often valid responses.

Navigating the complexities of unresolved trauma, general stress, and the longing for both physical and emotional healing can understandably feel like a daunting task. However, please rest assured that you are not alone on this profound journey. I am here with an open heart to truly hear and understand your experiences, and my aim is to empower you to regain control over your well-being.

Together, we can embark on a transformative journey toward healing, where you are supported every step of the way. Your path to healing is unique, and I am honored to walk beside you as you discover your own inner strength and resilience.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Groups

I am pleased to offer a supportive chronic disease self-management group, tailored for adults with at least one chronic health condition. This group is designed to provide individuals living with chronic conditions a safe and supportive environment where they can share experiences, exchange knowledge, and learn strategies for effectively managing their health and well-being.

I have previous experience in implementing both the Chronic Disease and Diabetes Self-Management programs, endorsed by the Mississippi Department of Health and originally developed by Stanford University.

This interactive program aims to increase:

  • Confidence.

  • Social support.

  • Psychological and physical well-being.

  • Knowledge of ways to manage chronic conditions.

  • Motivation to manage challenges associated with chronic diseases.

Target Audience:

  • Adults with one or more chronic conditions.

  • Older adults.

Key Activities:

  • Open Sharing: Meetings offer a safe space for participants to openly share their experiences, challenges, and successes related to their chronic conditions. Sharing personal stories fosters empathy and helps participants realize that they are not alone in their journey.

  • Interactive educational activities like discussions, brain storming, practice of action-planning and feedback, behavior modeling, problem-solving techniques, and decision making.

  • Also includes symptom management activities like exercise, relaxation, communication, healthy eating, medication management, and managing fatigue.

  • Peer Support: The group dynamics foster peer support, allowing participants to offer advice, encouragement, and emotional support to one another. Peer support has been shown to improve self-confidence and self-care practices.

  • Social Connection: Participants have the opportunity to build social connections and friendships with others who understand the challenges of living with chronic conditions. This can help combat feelings of isolation and loneliness.

  • Confidentiality and Respect: Ground rules are established to ensure confidentiality and a respectful, nonjudgmental atmosphere where everyone's experiences are valued.

Community/ Group-based workshop, located at Arise Psychiatry at 2889 Lamar Blvd.

Class size: Between 10 and 16 participants.

Duration: Participants meet for one hour once a week, for 12 weeks.

For more information about how to sign up for this group, please fill out the consultation form located at the bottom of this page.

Healthcare Organization Consultation

My mission is to collaborate with healthcare organizations to bridge the gap between physical and mental health, creating comprehensive and patient-centered care models. Through strategic consultation, I empower healthcare organizations to recognize the importance of behavioral healthcare and guide them in implementing effective strategies. By integrating evidence-based practices and promoting a holistic approach, we can enhance patient outcomes and well-being.

With a deep understanding of the complexities within the healthcare system, I offer tailored solutions that align with your organization's vision, values, and goals. Together, we can shape a healthcare landscape that prioritizes both the physical and mental health of individuals.

I invite you to explore how we can work together to transform healthcare delivery and make a positive impact on the lives of patients and communities.

Let's embark on this journey toward integrated and compassionate care. Contact me today to discuss how I can support your organization's goals.
